It's Okay

He said, "Use your imagination, fantasize, dream, become who you've always wanted to be."  He was passionate, desperate with tears, fighting the urge not to be overwhelmed with emotion.  But it was plain to see, his knowledge from decades of training and living opened his passion.  Don't let life pass you by!

"It's not a bad place to be," he said, "it's an opportunity of a lifetime."

Don't let sadness swallow you.

Beginning and End

Alex marched in his last Memorial Day parade with his high school band today.  Next year at this time, he will be finished with high school.

I'm so proud.

Working concessions at the event center, thousands of people, most with smiles, eye contact, and thank yous as I helped them.

Please be patient, I said. No, c'mon, hurry up, we're missing the show, she said.
We had been working non-stop for 4 hours, on our feet in a crowded space, I just wanted to make sure we had her order right when I asked, you ordered 2 cokes right?  She clucked her tongue and rolled her eyes, making us feel inferior.  She didn't realize we were doing the best we could, in all the chaos, with sore feet.

The Beginning and End

I began crying today when I realized, on my way to work, that Alex, beginning today, will be a Senior in high school. A Senior.  In high school.

The significance of this is beyond what I can grasp.  I remember holding him as a babe, so attached and so in love, unable to imagine him as a Senior, at the end of high school.

There's a whole year ahead, with Alex as a Senior, in high school.  Today I cried.  In the same moment I'm proud.
